These services are provided to help improve student’s mental, social and emotional health. Services include group assessments, interventions and referrals. Counselors, psychologists and social workers provide these services.
According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, organizational assessment and consultation skills of counselors and psychologists contribute not only to the health of students but also to the health of the school environment. Professionals such as certified school counselors, psychologists, and social workers provide these services.

The vision of the Arizona School Counselor Association, Inc. is to support school counselors through professional development, resources, and advocacy at the state and national level. AZSCA empowers school counselors to lead systemic change by delivering to all students a comprehensive competency based program, aligned with state standards for academic, personal/social, and career development.

American Association of Suicidology
Youth suicidal behavior is a significant national problem. Yet, as with so many public health problems, youth suicide is often preventable. Saving young lives at risk involves a diverse range of interventions including effective assessment and treatment of those with mental disorders, promotion of help-seeking, early detection of and support for youth in crisis, preventive training in life skills, and reduction of access to lethal means. Arizona Youth & Family Services, Inc. (AYFS)
Arizona Youth & Family Services, Inc. (AYFS) is a non-profit community mental health agency serving children, adolescents, and families in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Arizona Department of Health Services Department of Behavioral Health Services (DBHS) Office of Prevention
The Office of Prevention provides tools, resources and technical support to promote the resiliency and prevention of behavioral health/substance abuse disorders in our communities. Our goal is to empower communities to make healthy choices.
Our office staff works cooperatively with community groups to:
- Collaborate with Arizona’s prevention workforce, including the Tribal/Regional Behavioral Health Authorities, Government entities, local communities and other stakeholders on developing state wide prevention services
- Strategically reduce substance abuse and suicide rates;
- Evaluate the effectiveness of prevention programs.
